The main developers of Diablo 2 Resurrected have stressed that they don't want players "feel as though they're paying to win" when the game goes on sale next year.
In the latest Diablo 2 Resurrected livestream(opens in new tab) Game director Joe Shely, along with the game's associate director Joesph Piora, along with community director Adam Fletcher gave fans an update on all things Diablo 2 Resurrected, as well as providing an insight into how things will work in the lead up to the game's release next summer.
During the stream The trio also discussed what they thought of the Diablo 2 Resurrected battle pass (around the 39:15 mark in the video below) as well as the upcoming seasons of the game. "It's essential for us to be able to balance the things that you'd find inside the combat pass" Piepiora added, "the way that they're challenging but are also very fair. We don't want to have any situations where players can feel that they have to pay. "To make a clear distinction in between battle passes and the seasons of Diablo 2 Resurrected Piepiora stated that "the seasons are still present in Diablo 2 Resurrected, in the manner that you encountered it within Diablo 3." The chapter-based mechanic will provide players various goals throughout the seasons and allows players to earn rewards in game on their own characters. "All of the content for the season is absolutely free. The content is not tied to the battle pass itself," Shely adds.
In order to help clarify any confusion Shely clarified that, when Diablo 2 Resurrected launches on June 6 2023, the game won't be available immediately to begin season one. "Season one will be released several weeks after the release of the game, and the season will begin when season one begins, everyone will be starting simultaneously, and everyone will have an even playing field," the developer said. The features that allow for competition in Diablo 2 Resurrected (e.g. : leader boards) are likely to appear in the upcoming seasons for those who didn't purchase early access to the D2R Ladder Items buy game won't be able to complain about any unfairness.
